Never Lonely® is a first-of-its-kind communication method to improve individual wellbeing and the quality of care of aged care residents, dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, children in hospital, and people with disabilities. Using a simple and effective approach, it helps carers, staff, support workers, volunteers and families create more compassionate, meaningful and respectful connections.
Never Lonely® is specifically designed for health care providers to assist residents and patients living with communication or isolation challenges, and those affected by loneliness, helplessness and boredom. This includes public and private aged care facilities, assisted living facilities, and hospitals and hospices for adults and children.
Never Lonely® is specifically designed for:
- Aged care residents
- Dementia and Alzheimer’s patients
- Children in hospital
- People with disabilities
Never Lonely® is a communication method that uses practical tools and techniques to help caregivers engage in great conversations and connections with residents and patients.
The method unlocks personal insights for each resident and patient to enable individual attention and emotional support. The LINK to meaningful interaction when spending quality time with residents and patients is this knowledge of their personal background. Never Lonely is an innovative, easy approach to creating and sharing that LINK.
Using the Never Lonely® method is simple and effective.
Step one
Relatives or carers complete a Life Background Form for a new resident or patient. This prompts them to share simple and insightful non-medical information – completed during, or shortly after, admission or at the start of home care arrangements.
Step two
The six most important and interesting points from the form are transferred to the Six Talking Points Poster (all non-confidential). The poster is displayed near the resident or patient, providing a fast, personalised reference tool and LINK to start conversations.
Step three
The Conversation Openers, available via the training handbooks and separate Booklet, offer easy ideas to start conversing. They are often the greatest win for caregivers. They LINK in a resident or patient’s background information and create a simple springboard for conversations, including for those who usually don’t respond well to direct questioning.
Step four
The 20 topic picture/story books are powerful, easy resources. They offer short stories and pictures covering 160 topics – usually with some directly relevant to a resident or patient’s own background and interests. There are also 4 children’s story books and a children’s song. When paired with the Conversation Openers, conversations easily flow.
Never Lonely® offers a Training Handbook specific to aged care residents and dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, and one specific to children in hospital and people with disabilities.
They are designed to help an organisation quickly start using the Never Lonely® method, and become easy reference tools for ongoing use.
The handbooks take around 1 hour to read and help caregivers easily learn how to use the Never Lonely® tools and techniques to create great conversations and develop caring connections.
